Inspired by Benji’s great work I have tried and created a YaST Meta Package that will fetch and install everything that is required to run the latest Compiz, including Composite Community plugins, transparent cube and a brand new settings manager.
All you need to do to get these goodies is as root run rpm -e compiz compiz-gnome compiz-kde (Everything compiz), install yast2-meta-package. Fire up konqueror and click on this:
Launch compiz with the following command:
compiz - -replace ccp &
gtk-window-decorator - -replace & (if running gnome/xfce)
or
kde-window-decorator - -replace & (if running KDE)
Start new settings manager:
ccs-settings &
Select all the plugins you like, if you select ‘animation’ make sure you disable ‘minimize’. To see what all animation effects are there in the plugin select “Random Animations for All Events”
Have a lot of fun…
Note: These are development snapshot packages, do no use on production machine, use at your own risk ![]()

Thank you, good work !

Hey, I tried your packages and they are working fine. But you mention that if you choose animation plugin you have to disable minimize. The problem is that on css-settings there is no animation plugin to select at all. Can you solve this? Thank you man

Hi,
your commands are not correct for copy & paste users
it should be –replace not - -replace.
nice work anyways!!!

it doesn’t work, i’ve tried to add gtk as my window decorator but with no success, it starts flickering and gives me this message in terminal “(gtk-window-decorator:3915): Wnck-WARNING **: Unhandled action type (nil)”
what am i doing wrong, or is it a bug?
it worked fine when i had gconf as my settings backend!

Hi,
Everything was auto-installed perfectally but I get segmantation fault when I try to run ccs-settings & . Do you know why is that?
: dandan, May 20, 2007 @ 11:05 pm
Sorry, my mistake, I had some old ccs libs in the /usr/local/lib dir.

@mankii start ccs-settings and select all the plugins you need including ‘decoration’
@ledem Yes, I am aware of that bit, but somehow on wordpress double dash looks like single dash on wordpress, so to make it more obvious i had to resort to that.
@andy I am not sure what could be wrong at your end, you should get animation plugin check box to select it in plugin list in ccs-settings.
I am glad that yast meta package handler even at this early stage of development worked so well.

ran meta-package thingy today and get the following error:
compiz (core) - Error: Can’t load plugin ‘ccp’ because it is built for ABI version 20070508 and actual version is 20070606
fyi - the previous rpms worked fine on my 10.2 x64
thanks

I have it installed and it is working… the only problem is that each time I reboot it seems like no window manager loads. So, each time I reboot I have to run those commands:
compiz - -replace ccp &
kde-window-decorator - -replace &
How do I cause this to be used by default on boot?

Having problems accessing http://benjiweber.co.uk/. Is there a mirror for the rpm on 10.2?

How do I install the yast2-meta-package?
I downloaded the .rpm in the website, and then I saw there is a readme file. It says we must append ‘the lines’ in profilerc (which I cheked and I don’t have) and add ‘the lines’ to konquerorrc (which I actually have, but it doesn’t have a section [Notificiation...]).
And by the way… which lines???

I wish Compiz / Compiz Fuzion would fix the SuperKaramba deal.
Beryl was working where SuperKaramba would stick to all desktops :(.. this is a step back.. Although some of the compiz fusion plug-ins are cool
