Here are some exciting new developments that has happened in compiz-fusion world.
Onestone created a new plugin called ‘Shift’ that does Flip and coverflow window switching. Here is the Flip mode:
Coverflow mode:
The above is in addition to what ring and compiz-core switcher can do. If you think your screen need any saving after all that you can enable screensaver from Pafy. The screensaver (does no good to your CPU) has two modes floating windows and cube.
Now, how can you not want windows folding itself into an airplane and flying off into the distance? Carlo Palma just created that animation effect.
Here is the video of it in action: airplane3d.ogg
Checkout the git for source and have fun.
Edit: New packages from the Test Repository should have all the new plugins and effects.

Wow, the aeroplane-thing is the most useless animation I have seen so far in CompizFusion.
But it really shows what it possible.
Really cool stuff! Thumbs up.

OK, i just installed it, the new Shift plugin doesn’t appear in CCSM, how do i enable it, or is it not added to this package yet? and do you have any idea when the widget plugin will be implemented back into compiz-fusion?

For now if you need ’shift’ plugin:
git clone git://anongit.opencompositing.org/fusion/plugins/shift
cd shift
make
sudo make XMLDIR=/usr/share/compiz DESTDIR=/usr/lib/compiz install install
It will be in the packages when it gets added to one of the plugins-* tree
You will need compiz*-devel*.rpm installed

lets make some small video about compiz affects, It will create more interest for youngsters.

i’ve already tried to git clone it, but it gave me a PKG_CONFIG_PATH error when i tried to compile it, despite having the -devel package!
hmm.. is it because i don’t have the git version?

i found this error message when git clone:
/usr/bin/gitfm: fatal error: `chdir’ failed: permission denied.
how to fix that?

You should probably chmod that directory, its seems that you have no rights to it. Example: chmod *** directoryname more here, http://catcode.com/teachmod/

cyberorg, could you please add the widget plugin to your compiz-fusion package, i’m really having a hard time trying to install it from git, here’s the link: git://people.freedesktop.org/~mike/widget

First: Windows Switcher
Two: Macintosh CoverFlow
Three: Macintosh screensaver.
Four: Really ugly folding plane.
Wow, you can see where Linux’s innovation goes!
: munkii, July 27, 2007 @ 11:47 am
@Osa: compiz has much more 3d desktop features than Mac’s, and even if some of them were inspired by the Mac’s, the whole Mac OSX was built on unix-like operating system (BSD) - you can come back and brag about your expensive desktop when you are able to make your own system from the ground up. if anything you took from us (the free software community) more than you can ever pay back, but sadly, most of the Mac zealots are ungrateful, close-minded, assholes - like you sir..

Now even mac users want what we got!!

Things are working great, small question: when will things be moved from the test repository to for instance the “normal” X11 repo?
