Compiz 0.6.2 and Compiz Fusion 0.6.0 for openSUSE
by cyberorg, Sunday, October 21st, 2007 @ 9:53 am

With the release of Compiz 0.6.2 a quickfix version of 0.6.0 release, Compiz Fusion community has followed it up with a release of Compiz Fusion 0.6.0 .

Packages for openSUSE 10.3 and 10.2 are, as always , available from X11:XGL Build service repository.

openSUSE 10.3 users can click on any one of the following metapackage to install:

Contains KDE and Emerald window decorator

Contains GTK and Emerald window decorator

Both the metapackages installs Compiz, Compiz Fusion Plugins, CompizConfig Settings Manager(CCSM), Fusion Icon and Compiz Manager

Major new improvement in this release is Kristian Lyngstøl’s Compiz Manager - a wrapper script that will launch Compiz automatically with all the relevant optimization parameters if it detects hardware and drivers capable of running Compiz or if the Xgl is activated. It will also launch Christopher Williams’ fusion-icon that sits in the tray bar for easy accessibility to different decorators and settings tool.

Due to addition of Compiz Manager autostart script, addition to gnome session or modification to /usr/bin/gnome-wm is no longer required, so if you have done any of that please revert it before installing these packages. Compiz is enabled by default when you install Compiz Manager, to disable compiz from starting automatically run the following as USER:

touch $HOME/.config/compiz/disable-compiz

If you want to activate it again later, run:

rm $HOME/.config/compiz/disable-compiz

Have a lot of fun!!

Edit: Beryl got moved from X11:XGL to X11:XGL:Legacy all you need is any openSUSE login account and you can carry on building Beryl or watch Compiz packages  building live, you can track progress of the whole openSUSE 11(Factory) there ;)

Installed like a charm but I have a problem.

I miss the title bar in the windows, the icons and graphics gets corrupted on and off nad the systems is rather sluggish.

I am using a Nvidia 7800GS and the latest drivers.

    Any suggestions?

nVIDIA no title bar run this as root and restart X:

    nvidia-xconfig –add-argb-glx-visuals -d 24

All under the troubleshooting section: http://en.opensuse.org/Compiz_Fusion

    Cheers

In the event of sluggish corrupted graphics:

It might be that the Nvidia 100 driver is not the right one for your card. Nvidia has recognised that there are flaws with this driver. In particular noted when using Compiz. Some claims a relation to dualcore (AMD?) processors. I had a lot of troubble with this driver in Ubuntu. Installing the 9xxx driver solved the problem.

It is rumored that the 100 driver will be updated by end of October ‘07 and that the Black Screen Bug and the disruptive behaviour with Compiz will be rectified..

    Wow!

    The compiz-manager is now magical.
However, I can’t found 3d windows and ccsm seems to lack some other features. :/

This is good news! I might finally try it out now that you can easily install it and enable and disable it.
touch $HOME/.config/compiz/disable-compiz

If you want to activate it again later, run:

    rm $HOME/.config/compiz/disable-compiz
Would it be hard for someone to write a GUI app with a start and stop button which executes those commands? I’d like to put something like that on my desktop then.

Reason why I would not want Compiz Fusion to run always, is because I like to play 3D-accellerated win32 games under Wine.

yes it is called fusion-icon :)

“However, I can’t found 3d windows and ccsm seems to lack some other features. :/”

    Same for me.

Do I need to use git packages to get the 3D plugin? Is there any problem with using git at the same time than using those packages installed via the 1ClickInstall? Should I uninstall 0.6.0 and install from your repo?

Got a couple of things unchangeable in my CCSM. For example I can’t get the Focus and Raise Behaviour to run propoertly: I can’t make windows raise on click.

But those two problems are minor for me. Lot’s of thanks to you all, developers. I’m really amazed and surprised about how fast and stable it is.

    Thanks.

P.S. Sorry about my english: I’m spanish.

Would it be possible to also have a packet with the unsupported plugins ?
