Hello Community

We are happy to announce the addition of new Pootle server which will make participating in translation work for Compiz Fusion project even more simple.

Just register yourselves at http://l10n.compiz-fusion.org/pootle/ and start translating.

This is the first time we are using this tool, so there may be some rough edges, check out resources available here http://translate.sourceforge.net/wiki/ in case you need any help with the new interface.

Obby server has been taken out of service.

Have fun!

by cyberorg, Friday, November 23rd, 2007 @ 8:44 am Comments (39)

New drivers work quite well, finally they able to run compiz without Xgl on fglrx as expected.

Note: Install the drivers via 1-click and make the changes to xorg.conf and compiz-manager as mentioned below. Skip the manual installation of the drivers.

####manual installation steps###

su -

init 3

zypper in kernel-source kernel-syms linux-kernel-headers
wget -c www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/ati-driver-installer-7-11-x86.x86_64.run
sh ati-driver-installer-7-11-x86.x86_64.run

Select custom option and install path as /

###end manual installation###

gnome-xgl-switch -d
aticonfig --initial --input=/etc/X11/xorg.conf --force

(double dash initial, input and force, note that we are not running sax2)

Make sure you have these things in xorg.conf

Section “Module”

Load “dbe”
Load “type1″
Load “freetype”
Load “extmod”
Load “glx”
Load “dri”

EndSection

Section “ServerFlags”

LD_LIBRARY_PATH is added to avoid compiz failing to start due to missing texture_from_pixmap error.

(Double dashes in front of no-libgl, ignore-desk… and replace)

PulseAudio: “Compiz for Sound” on openSUSE
by cyberorg, Thursday, November 22nd, 2007 @ 8:14 pm Comments (7)

We’re jumping on to the PulseAudio bandwagon,  same as Fedora(Interview with Lennart Poettering). To prepare the groundwork for that move, Rodrigo and I worked on porting all the required packages and getting it working on openSUSE.

Here is the result :)

What you are seeing in the shot are all the PulseAudio apps, information shows connection to pulse server, and volume control app shows banshee as client, volume controls for other application that is using sound will show up below banshee, so each can be controlled individually.

Check out GNOME Ideas for 11 wiki page for instructions on how to get PulseAudio on openSUSE.

I guess they call it “Compiz for sound” because it has too many configuration options ;)

Water in the tank and KIWI updates
by cyberorg, Monday, November 19th, 2007 @ 12:55 pm Comments (2)

David Mikos has been busy adding tons of improvement to atlantis plugin, fishes now move in school, another cool new addition is water and waves to complete the picture of a fish tank. It would be added to git packages soon.

Obligatory screenshot:

I’ll leave other interesting stuff that is happening like stars, autumn, smackpad, cubedbus plugins and other settings tool development, for our resident journalist SmSpillaz to cover in more details.

We released KIWI-LTSP 0.3.11 with reduced initrd image size so that the diskless thin-clients(TC) with 128MB memory can now boot, we still need to massively reduce it to allow booting even 64MB TC. KIWI is rapidly developing and has improved quite a lot since last month, some of the improvements like diskless profile for the netboot image were specially added for KIWI-LTSP. To create a custom distribution based on openSUSE 10.3, including live USB/CD/DVD, check out Novell Open Audio featuring KIWI.

One more cube: right prism ;) and wallpapers
by cyberorg, Wednesday, November 7th, 2007 @ 5:45 pm Comments (8)

I have added a couple of new plugins to home:cyberorg repo, a photowheel plugin developed by b0le which allows you to put another cube inside the cube with photos you select, it can rotate in the center or wheel around the cube. Works with minimum three images.

Also included for the first time is wallpaper plugin by Robert Carr, that allows you to set different wallpapers on each face of the cube.

Wallpaper plugin requires patched nautilus and eel packages from the same repository.  To add wallpapers the following have to be typed in manually in ccsm:

“file:///full/path/to/image.png:1 “

Cube transparency is lost, but opacity of the wallpaper can be set in the last field i.e, have anything less than 1 there, shows wallpaper behind the top one if you have more than few set.

Happy Diwali!

Introducing the real 3D Compiz!
by cyberorg, Thursday, November 1st, 2007 @ 9:12 pm Comments (57)

Wodor has hacked together an anaglyph plugin for Compiz that turns ordinary monitor into a real 3D one. The blurry image you see below is an anaglyph rendered by the plugin, you need 3D glasses or use anything transparent red (left eye) and cyan(right eye) to view the magic.click to enlarge

Click the image to view it enlarged, you should see desktop icons drop back and windows floating in air.

Although I do not think that people would be wearing funny glasses all day long to work on their PC, possibilities this plugin presents are quite exciting for gamers and everyone wanting to show off the ‘real’ 3D desktop.

The plugin is in testing/unstable/unsupported home:cyberorg git repository.

Edit: Few more images and source tarball here: http://wodor.org/anaglyph/
