    Sir,
i am final year engineering student and Linux enthusiasts . For the propagating Linux we opened a LINUX USER GROUP in our university , though even after a year of operation . we have been only able to bring around 60 people to Linux . Then a few days ago i came across your blog and your event at BITA , is something of that magnitude possible in Shimla (that’s where my college is ).Some students are interested in contributing to Linux , the lack of information nullifies any possibility , is there any method that can possibly dispel myths and fears about Linux.
    thank you.

P.S :: there are some problem with nvidia drivers from open suse repo’s where should i report it ,and compiz is not working with compiz fusion on nvidia , will that change in future.

    Hi Shashank

There are no issues with nvidia drivers at all, update the kernel from online update and then install the 1-click drivers.

Regarding making Linux popular, we started as just two person “group”, now we have over 350 members and must have introduced 1000s more to Linux. Give away live CDs, Regular workshops, demonstrations, installation festival, and other events like that helps keeping Linux in sight of everyday user and sooner or later they are going to try it. Provide all help you can to ease their first try.

You can always get in touch with me if you need any assistance.

    Cheers

    -J

    sir,
thank you for your suggestion , we would surely try all these . I have one more query though
is their any career opportunity in free/open source. i mean i regularly contribute patches(junior jobs) to kde4 , but i can’t take that as my long term preference , so are their serious FLOSS companies in India in which i can apply or opening a floss awareness company myself could be a solution.

    thanks for you time

P.S:8400m gs presumably has some performance issues , as we found out from nv news and our own experience (the nvidia powermizer lowers the frequency of cpu / memory ) even if in settings if was specifically selected to not do so. only running a 3d app continuously solves the problem otherwise the system runs on performance level 0 )
