Compiz 0.7 out, OSIWEEK, workshops etc.
by cyberorg, Friday, February 8th, 2008 @ 9:01 pm

* Dennis “onestone” Kasprzyk announced the release of Compiz 0.7 , lot of improvements including multi monitor support. Look out for the openSUSE packages on the Build Service X11:XGL repository.

  • Install compiz-kde4 package if you would like to use kde4-window-decorator
  • There is now ‘compiz-decorator‘ shell script, that tries to guess the DE running and launch the decorator accordingly.
  • Tons of new plugins: magnify, shelf, showmouse, mousepoll, new fishes in the cube, 3D plugin now in -extras package.
  • Compiz packages are versioned 0.7 and fusion packages are 0.6.9_git080208
  • This is a development release, it will be followed up by 0.8 stable release

* I will be away whole of this week, attending OSIWEEK at Bangalore, look me up if you are going there too. Hopefully I’ll get to meet all the great people behind Evolution and other cool software Novell R&D center in B’lore cook up.

* Did a very enjoyable workshops, one for VGLUG on Advanced Administration and another on LAMP stack and Joomla CMS for MSU Computer Center students.

Thought I’d take Michael Meeks approach to this post, need to go pack, leaving in few hours ;)

I don’t know if this is a Compiz 0.7 or an OpenSUSE 10.3 issue. I just upgraded from the previous release and focus-under-mouse no longer works. It’s always click-to-focus now.

    Hi CyberOrg,

The compiz version for Suse 10.2 is still 6.2. Will the new version be available for it? When?

Into another topic… I still coudln’t make 0.6 work with my NVIDIA and drivers 169.0x, and I have tried every fix I could find. Is it true that you can’t make it work without XGL on SUSE?

    Thanks!

There will be no updates for 10.2.

Install and run compiz-manager to get compiz running on nvidia.

Wow! THAT is a quick response :-)

I have tried compiz-manager before, but since I have fusion-icon installed, everything it does is launching it, and it then starts compiz. Is there any difference between that and having compiz-manager launch compiz directly?

    Compiz-manager serve at 2 things:
1: autostart at login (without any ~/autostart stuff or gnome-sessions)
2: When compiz-manager launches compiz, it tries to find the way that compositing is handled (xgl/aiglx/nvidia) and react accordingly.

3d plugin does not work anymore.

Since the upgrade to compiz 0.7 the 3d plugin does not work anymore. :(

    Is there any bug?
